I am really saying that no matter how old or young someone is, there is part of us that misses someone deeply and entertains thoughts about why them and not me. It just seems to be part of the grieving I have experienced.
I think if we see someone much younger than us die, this reaction can be more pronounced. I guess it is a personal matter for each person how they react.
It is easier for me justifying that someone who has lived 90 years and no longer has any excitement in their life would evoke less survivor's grief than if someone lost a child or grandchild. When one has lived life fully and for a long time, it is hard to see someone die that is young and just beginning life.
