Since we are the ones responsible for their wellbeing throughout their lives, our brains automatically jump to the conclusion that we have failed them when they inevitably die. We look for ways we could have saved them when the reality is that we live longer than our pets. I think that is what is happening here. As for the lumps spreading really fast - I hope this does not sound callous - but it seems like perhaps that would have been easier on Ebony, if perhaps harder on you. A long, drawn out illness is not something you would have wanted for her, I'm sure.

The heartbreaking thing was she had a hellish two years on the streets and being abused, a few months in rescue going to and from the vet to deal with her health conditions before the vet OK'd her for adoption, then 4 years with me which made her only just 7 when she took her last breath at the vet with me there, her eyesight was going and we think she couldn't hear any more either cause of the lump reaching her brain before the vet even knew it wasn't her previously-diagnosed asthma causing her breathing problems, poor furbaby girl never deserved what happened to her ....
