I think it's wonderful that you're looking after Buddha. Hamsters sometimes learn their names, and that's a great name. Two of my hamsters had tumors by the time they died. It's very common in rodents.

My first hamster was named Furry, because he was my only "furry" pet (the others were fish!). My second hamster was Mimi. She was originally Mia (Mia Hammster) but I didn't like it. Mimi seemed to fit. Both hamsters lived a year and a half. My third hamster was sick when I got her, so she didn't live very long. I named her Lily. She was a beige-colored hamster, very delicate looking.
