Now on day #23. Sober Me!
I just got a call from my ex (who is now in AA and an abuser program). He ownes a race car and there is a shop in our small town where a few mechanics hang out and usually drink after work. Last night at 8PM, the transmission guy turned out onto the highway in front of a motorcycle. He was drunk and the guy on the motorcycle had been drinking. The man on the motorcycle died and our friend was charged with DUI MANSLAUGHTER. He also had his pregnant daughter in the car. Why she was not driving, none of us will ever know. Thus, the ignorant decisions we make when we drink.
It hit close to home.
My ex used to stay over there all the time and drink til he couldn't stand up with those guys. And sometimes I would join him. Then, guess what, we'd get in the car and drive home drunker than a skunk.
He and I are both so grateful that we no longer drink. That could have been me or him, or both of us. My prayers go out to the family of the man on the motorcycle. His name has yet to be released but, I'm sure I probably knew him, he was coming from my favorite Karaoke Spot.
So sad, and so close to home. Really makes you grateful that you had the courage to quit. Just thought I would share.
