My song in the moment is "The Crunge" by the Led Zeppelin. The song has no particular meaning to me lyrically, but it reminds me a lot of how I used to comically annoy my dad when I'd play something incredibly caustic in my room - Backdoor Man by the Doors, Police on My Back by the Clash, etc......something that would get him to come into my room and glare at me with that WTF look on his face. . My dad passed away a few weeks ago, hence my absence from the boards. For some reason, the song connects me to my dad. I find solace in music from many of the threats I perceive in my life. It was obvious early in my life that dad wasn't a big "hard rock" fan.....he was more of an Elvis or Gerry and the Pacemakers kind of guy. I'll always remember he used to make fun of my music that played on the radio in the car on the way to hockey practice. A favorite target of his was Robert Plant and Led Zeppelin. I laugh when I think about when Physical Graffiti came out and the songs were all over the stations where I grew up. He'd always say something like "who are these losers" or "God, this is awful". But he surprised us all a few years ago by blurting out one day "I think I want to go see the Eagles in concert". We all cracked up - who are you, we said. So my sisters took him and my mom to the show. I'm not sure what it all means, but sometimes we need to find comfortable places to land.
