I have been thinking about that sentence a lot too lately. Unfortunately it would seem he knows this but doesn't know how else to cope apart from keep running to chase the brief periods of respite.
I sincerely hope his mother will be able to persuade him to seek help. It pains me to know he is suffering so much.
