Yes - this has always been my major concern with the 'diagnosis' - there is a huge amount of sexist, controlling and judgemental baggage surrounding the history of women's mental health, going right back to the old 'hysteria/conversion disorder' and I think it's a legitimate concern that BPD is overused as a modern form of the old 'hysteria' label (the 'manipulative' slur particularly angers me).
I think C-PTSD will be in the next DSM (possibly under another name as I think there is some confusion with PTSD that needs addressing) - certainly my own psychiatrist is lobbying for this and agrees with me about the gender bias around over applied BPD diagnoses, more should do so to get change. Psychiatry as a discipline is still in the middle ages in many ways.
