To avoid blowing up at people in that situation, I usually try to minimize unnecessary contact and communication and let those closest to me know how I am feeling. I tell them I might need space or to walk away and if I am short with them I don't mean to be. Although I couldn't always help getting irritated at people, I removed myself from the situation til I cooled down if I felt anger boiling over. I ended up punching things in this state which is somewhat helpful, but usually was done in a rage and was a random object. Might be helpful to punch a pillow or punching bag. I even thought a stress ball might help, but haven't tried it. Also, putting on music, closing my eyes and removing myself from outside stimulation helped, too, because I found myself simultaneously overstimulated. Exercise, walking, meditation and deep breathing were also helpful to me.
Also just wanted to add my pdoc was going to give me prn clonazepam for it, but I didn't end up taking it. He said it would help my anger. I think I might have been hypo or mixed? Hope you feel better soon.
