Im confused. if members dont know you are there then they cant chat with you. and if you are so triggered by chat that you want to be invisible to everyone then why go into chat....
my point being invisible in chat would actually defeat the purpose of what chat is for. finding and talking in real time mode with others.
my suggestion is when you find yourself feeling like you dont want members to see you dont go into chat. set your regular profile at invisible and just read the boards.
also last I knew chat did have a private room option. where if you are a designated chat monitor or something like that you can make your own private chat room and invite only those you want to, into the room and chat with you. if you are not a chat host there is a way to either ask a chat host to make you a chat room or become a chat host yourself so that you can be a chat host in your own private chatroom.

New chat hosting guidelines
Any member can be a chat host, but they have to abide and agree with the Chat Host Guidelines:

To apply, PM any administrator with your request. As long as you meet the criteria, your application will be approved.
Being a chat host now means you have responsibilities as well as control of your own chat room. That means you will be responsible for helping uphold the community guidelines while in chat, and in generally keeping the peace in your chat room
