Oh, poor Debbie! It is weird having ice when you're use to that gentler water equivalent, fog.

Sleet, freezing rain, ice storms, they're all pretty much the same thing; it just says where the ice "starts" (freezing rain, it started as rain and froze because the air was so cold on the way down or the other way around, I don't remember; sleet it's cold all the way or the other :-) or what to expect relative to snow. Ice storms are just frozen stuff, no snow. You'll have the pretty coated trees and power lines but it might be "heavier" than the freezing rain, more of it because it will be a bit less frozen coming down than the rain, will hit cold surfaces as rain and THEN freeze, making the nice coats of ice. With freezing rain, some of the percipitation is individual drops of frozen stuff so it falls on the ground but if wet stuff falls on cold power lines, they coat and become too heavy and will snap the line. Trees have troubles too and large branches can break (fall on houses or power lines too and their added ice weight brings the lines down).

What makes ice storms so hard is they're "ice" so you can't drive on them, shovel them (you can shovel sleet and frozen rain a little because they're individual little grains), repair lines, etc. until the ice melts! So there's widespread power outages and both communication and travelling problems. Lots of car accidents and emergency rooms fill up, etc.
