An average person has a stride length of approximately 2.1 to 2.5 feet. That means that it takes over 2,000 steps to walk one mile; and 10,000 steps would be almost 5 miles.

Woah. 20 miles?? No wonder he's underweight.
Usually anything above 25,000 steps is a lot for me and 30,000 REALLY a lot. I think my steps were estimated at 17 miles something yesterday. Right now, I'm 31,264, 15 miles estimated. Not sure just how accurate these things are though. And certain types of FitBits, you can give false steps to, just by swinging your arm and alternatively, it will not count steps when your arm is not swinging (pushing a grocery cart, carrying something in the arm with the FitBit on). So it's all just an estimation. And I never bothered to measure my stride length, which plays into it.

I actually use the GPS on my phone for estimating the mileage; it's much more accurate. It gives the same distance as when I drive a given route that I walk.
