Sometimes there are old posts or even current discussions which don't have replies but people do get thanks or hugs. However they might never see them if they don't look into that topic again.
not sure but I think there used to be a way to track when someone was thanking you. it was in the profiles under statistics where it says find posts that you have thanked, find threads that you have hugged. there used to be an option there saying find posts that you have been thanked and find posts you have been hugged.

if Im remembering right those options were discontinued because it was upsetting members who thought if they didnt get thanked or hugged so many times then that meant they were not popular or liked.

tip in understanding the thanked... its not always about whether someone is actually thanking you. many here click thanks just as a way to let you know that they have read your post.

in the index of threads you will see a statistical thing called views and replies. some were getting upset that their threads were being viewed and not know if their friends have seen it, views shows number not only of members but also those that are not logged in or registered who have read it. So some of us here (including me here,) click on thanks to let each others know that we have read the post.

with me I dont worry about tracking and getting notifications. if its a thread or post that I want to know whether someone is thanking, hugging and replying in I "subscribe" to that thread. then one of the first things I check out on a daily basis is going to my profile and reading the subscribed threads.

I agree that it would be great to have psych central like facebook where we get hundreds of notifications every time someone posts or thanks or hugs but frankly how many of us actually go down the list of our facebook notifications and read each one. especially with those using cell phones and it uses up minutes and air time just to click on those things to get rid of them. I dont know about everyone else but me I dont even check out my facebook notifications. I click the little ball just to get rid of that counter then I set my settings at no notifications on facebook and other sites that do have this option. easier just subscribing instead of getting dinged or see an annoying counter in a bright red dot.

my point ...I dont think I would use a notification of thanks if we had one. (or went back to that way of doing things. my option psych central isnt a social networking website, its a mental health website so having the thanks notification option may end up causing more problems then good.
