The thanks & hugs buttons aren't like social media "Likes" or what-not (since we predate social media by quite a bit). They are just there to allow members to express their quick thanks/hugs to another member without the need of writing a reply to the member to say as much.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to receive notifications of thanks/hugs outside of reviewing them on your profile. Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion.
