i have heard that there is no official tribe named 'Lakota' .. i was a little confused, but is it that 'Lakota' is a place, like an ideal? ... rather than a 'name' for a group of people?

Each nation has bands. I believe the Lakota have seven of them (Oglala, Brule, etc.)
