It can take a long time to get diagnosed with bipolar. They have to observe your moods over time. It took 2 years for me to be diagnosed with bipolar and 15 years to find the right meds. Psychiatry is not a one time thing and done. Most of the time the first meds you're put on don't even work. There are many bipolar meds and many combinations of said meds. If a psychiatrist diagnosed you with bipolar on the first meeting I would run far away.
