Combination of both over all the years I have been here.

I only send friendship requests to people I find I have something in common with & sometimes I get surprised because I feel like I've known someone here a long time & either they friend me or I realize they aren't on my friend list & will friend them.

I have also friended new people here that I have posted with who I have something in common with.

Most of the ones on my friend list no longer are even on PC anymore or haven't posted in years....I just don't clean up the list very often.....takes to much time for me.
