I haven't heard voices or music for a long time, but had a period when they were quite distressing. I was on medication at the time, and honestly don't remember really being in a major mood episode. My psychiatrist eventually put me on Tegretol XR and when I reached therapeutic level they did stop. It was a huge relief! That was almost 8 years ago.
Though I have had some auditory hallucinations when manic, my psychosis is more often in the form of delusions or visual hallucinations. I was manic and psychotic this past May and had both.
I don't understand how/why you ran out of medications before your next psychiatrist appointment. Did you misplace some? Or take more than prescribed? Did an earlier appointment get cancelled unexpectedly? Or was your psychiatrist so delinquent that he/she did not prescribe enough for you to last until your next appointment? If the latter, you should really discuss this with him/her. That would be very delinquent of them.
If you are having any kind of hallucinations or negative side effects from not taking medications, I urge you to call your doctor's office and let them know this. They should at least call in a new prescription to your pharmacy even before your next appointment.
