Hi NolaMae. There is no way to know which med(s) would or wouldn't do what to you. You need to trust your psychiatrist and just try a new one, if that's what your doc wants. I have never had TD from any antipsychotic in the 15+ years taking various ones. The closest I came was a brief dystonia from Navane (thiothixene), which is a 1st generation antipsychotic, but many others have taken that and/or other 1st generations with no problems.

I think weight gain is also not a given. I know people who say that they gained lots of weight on Seroquel XR, but my weight gain on this med is fairly minimal. I think Zyprexa, Clozaril, Risperdal, and Invega are more notorious for that. I gained more weight on regular Seroquel than its XR version. Geodon and Navane were weight neutral for me.

Some antipsychotics gave me akathisia, others didn't or not for a long time after starting them. Risperdal and Invega increased my prolactin levels. No others did.

Seroquel XR has been the most side effect friendly antipsychotic for me so far. My psychiatrist says it has the reputation for not causing extrapyramidal symptoms (akathisia, dystonia, TD) as often as other antipsychotics.
