While racism has been around in all of history, the causes of racial feelings vary from generation to generation, even from year to year. In my area, there are serious language tensions between French and English, stirred up by historical influences, there are racist views against Aboriginals due to lifestyles that have resulted from our own government's actions and media portrayal of the issues influencing non-Aboriginal perceptions. There are racial issues that develop from competition for jobs. In researching immigration patterns in Canada, our government will often allow certain ethnic groups to immigrate and restrict others based on who is willing to do the most labour for the cheapest pay rate. There are racial issues that develop in so many groups from so many issues. Our society likes to find a place or group to lay blame on for our life's struggles. Most of the time, those who truly are the perpetrators of discrimination successfully focus the dislike onto another group.

We each have our own biases. My father developed viewpoints of a certain ethnic group because teh company he managed was European owned. It will not completely be annihilated, unfortunately, we simply have to remember that not all people of a group are hateful and not all people of a group are worth the anger we might feel. We have to maintain perspective and pay attention to who is spinning teh stories that stir our emotions. They are usually the worse.
