That half memory only remotely relates to what you (and others) have posted, dear Fuzzybear. The sting of others' words and behaviour agonizes you, and the passage of time does not dull that sting.
I suppose some, even "professionals", will counter with a "should". "Time and positive affirmations should dull the sting."
