I have been through the hurricanes and the evacuations though people fled Houston, and Rita didn't even hit here. But that was the first major storm after Katrina, so everyone left. We fled Ike, got roof damage the insurance paid off, lost a tree, fled again for Harvey, this time toward the Hill Country and not the Dallas area like tons of people from Houston. We lost a few limbs from the pecan tree, but pecan trees are self-grooming that way anyway, we once had a tree trimmer tell us. Don't think the pecans will make well this year; they always fall in October, but I don't see nearly as many on the tree as usual. My parents, grandparents, one aunt & uncle usually ride out the hurricanes & tropical storms; they are in the county southwest of Houston. Usually they do OK, but flooding was a close thing with Harvey. And really, evacuation traffic is a nightmare.

I'm sorry about your mom and living situation. It is very touching to hear your husband's kind words. I have compulsive overspending too. That has made a bad financial situation verge near crisis level. I am doing better now, but I am definitely not 100% though we are finally, finally getting that budget put together.
