Few dispute the rising prevalence of insulin resistance in modern diets all over the world. As insulin resistance can lead to all kinds of problems (including depression?), people have looked into various means of restoring the body's insulin sensitivity.
The continuous, chronic elevation of glucose in the blood and resulting chronically elevated insulin levels probably (?) lead to the "downregulation" of those metabolic pathways allowing the body to use stored fat rather than glucose for fuel. Fat burning does/may (?) have benefits beyond weight control.
Time-restricted feeding and intermittent fasting are among many proposed methods for more effective restoration of insulin sensitivity.
An amazing amount of controversy surrounds these topics.
