Every single thing we do, see, feel is filtered through our brain.
When we imagine performing an action, many of the same neurons fire as when we actually perform that action. Or (mirror neurons) when we see another person performing an action, many of the same neurons fire as when we perform the actions ourselves.
Our brains are not very smart, and sometimes cannot tell the difference between imagining and actually doing/seeing.
