I don't even know how possible it is to undo that collective mentality (kids are 7 and 8). I am seriously considering looking at the local private school. It's expensive but if his happiness is at stake I don't know what else to do.

((Echos)) That's so hard. Kudos to his teachers for recognizing the dynamic and trying to undo it, and it's not fair to your son to be in that spot in the first place.
My daughter on the spectrum was targeted by only a couple kids in her class, and it shifted the whole social dynamic. She ended up being placed in a class without those kids the next year, which helped.

It's a tough spot to be in, trying to figure out what to do next, especially when the options are limited. I hope that what the teachers are working on now starts to turn things around and that you're able to find a long term solution that supports your son in being exactly perfectly who he is.
