IMO, it was probably helpful to get to the "sources" of my problems, the trauma and dissociation, but then rebuilding a personality from fragmented parts needs more of a whole social environment than just one "relationship", just an "attachment", with a therapist. That's my opinion and theory anyway.
(But. . .it was harmful to my ability to function in real time to go digging for those traumas, it took way too long, I didn't understand how other people, including therapists, were able to cause additional pain, because my defense had been to numb it out or turn anger against myself, etc. Two years post last T I'm doing better -- in large part because of the supportive social environments I have found here and elsewhere. Lucky. Sad about folks I know who haven't been, yet.)
I just saw a link in another thread, probably you did too, about the "Ask Kathleen" service available in the UK. Maybe that would help?
I've also seen stuff about the MIND charity in the UK that sounded good, but it also sounds a lot like the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) here in the U.S. and to me, I have found that organization to be almost less than helpful.
