I've heard that ADs such as SSRIs help about 35% of people with depression (as others have said--not a new result). I had not heard that those people who are helped tend to be the most depressed. Depression is a complex condition with many causes that result in the same symptoms. SSRIs can help only a subset, probably depression with a similar root cause. It's OK, not really unexpected. It's true, the pharmaceutical ads make you think their product will help everyone and lead to false expectations.
