I know this topic has been mentioned several times before (and will, I'm sure, be mentioned several times again), but I couldn't see a recent thread and wanted some new (recent) thoughts. I'll ask a couple of questions, leave them open to interpretation and give my thoughts*, then I want to hear what you have to say. Hopefully that's ok with people.

- What are people's thoughts on Dating Apps/Sites? Can anything good come out of them? Are people who are on them just looking for sex?

This has come about after a friend of mine recently rejoined the dating world, has tried a few apps, been out on dates with a few people and, generally, seems to be having fun with it. Possibly as a joke, they suggested I should try it as well, as they know I've been single for a while. We both seem to be looking for the same thing (actual relationships), but I'm much more reluctant to try it.

I've never tried any dating app or site, but the thought of it just makes me feel quite uneasy. I feel that a lot of people on apps are just looking for casual sex rather than relationships (totally fine, but not what I'm looking for at all). I also get the impression that a lot of the initial "match" process is based on physical appearance. Not only do I not like the idea of choosing a partner on how they look, but I feel that anyone who'd "pick" me *just* based on appearance isn't the kind of person who'd interest me.

I'm hardly at my best in social situations, so, in theory, it seems like a good idea, but it just seems so artificial. I can't tell whether this kind of reluctance/uncertainty is normal, or if it's perhaps a sign that online dating isn't for me.

What do other people think? I've rambled for long enough.

*Some of my thoughts are based on what I've heard from friends on the subject and some of it is just conjecture. Feel free to disagree with anything I've said.
