Click on the link below. It will take you to the "User Profile Features" page in the FAQ. Scroll down to "Friends and Contacts". The second paragraph from the bottom tells you how you can accept a friend request:

https://forums.psychcentral.com/faq....iends_contacts

Alternatively... I presume you already know that your private messages appear in the upper right-hand corner of your screen where it says (appropriately enough) "Private Messages" (just below your username & when you last visited.)

When you receive a message, if you click on the number of messages you have there'll be a dropdown that tells you what type of message you've received. One of the options is Friend Request. If you click on that you will be taken to a screen that shows all of your friends' avatars (if any.) At the bottom of those, on the left-hand side will be the avatar & username of the member who's requesting your friendship. And in the upper... uh... left-hand corner (I believe it is as I recall) of the avatar there'll be a small white box. If you click on that box a check-mark should appear.

Over on the right-hand side of the screen, directly across from the avatar is a place you click on to accept the member's friend request. The member's avatar is then transferred up into alphabetical order along with any other friends you may have. You can then go to that member's profile page & you should be able to find your avatar in that member's friends list. I always like to leave something on their message board as well to thank them for their request. I hope this makes sense (& is accurate.) Although I've done it quite a few times in the past, it's difficult to remember exactly how it goes.
