I've lost connections with friends before through the years. Changed phone numbers do make matters worse. Be gentle with yourself, not every lost connection jumps to the ghosting conclusion. I take it neither of you knew the other's mailing address? If you knew his or how to track his address down, perhaps send him a letter or quick note?
