What I cannot understand is how to get a GP or a pdoc to prescribe Metformin or any prescription that helps weight loss. They just blow me off. I spoke with my pdoc about it yesterday; she was vague and not encouraging.

I'm seeing my GP next week and will be asking her about weight loss meds. I'll be surprised if she offers anything. I have gained well over 100 lbs. on Seroquel, and I genuinely fear for my health. I'm almost off the stuff, but losing 100lbs is going to be next to impossible without something besides diet and exercise.

My thought at this point is, if no one will prescribe a med I'll find a supplement with ephedrine-like herbs in it. I'd take ephedra, but it's illegal in the States. An irony, since ephedra has the same potential dangers as Seroquel does. I figure that the pharma companies didn't see much opportunity to score cash with ephedra, so it was pulled off the market.
