I think it's definitely insensitive - but it could have simply been clueless thinking. Sometimes people don't get it when we tell them that we've stopped drinking. They think it's for a while, or that just one won't hurt.
I'm glad that it's out of your house though. I can't have any liquor in my house the temptation would be too strong.
