That is definitely
not a universal truth. I'd been working 80 hours/week in the ICU when I was admitted to the psych hospital for a severe depressive episode (I was there for a whole month; they wanted me to get ECT). Went to work on a Monday, functioned totally normally (no one had any idea I was unwell), had myself admitted that Wednesday.
Depression, like most mental health issues, can take many forms.
