Anyone else in the same boat? Tips?
I was in the same boat as you about 30 years ago. What I wish someone had told me back then was to get a mentor. Find a hobby that immerses you so it becomes acceptable to others that you don't do corporate activities because you're training for a marathon, in a chess tournament or whatever. Socialise through that outside work and do the minimum to get by at work (in terms of mixing with people). Be fairly open about being geeky/ introverted/ shy so people won't think you're arrogant or hate them or something stupid. Have therapy regularly. Make a little box of calming things to take with you, with whatever makes you feel safe in it (soft toy, candy, comic, photos etc). And don't worry too much, try to enjoy what you're learning and doing. It will work out.
