Actually if you go into the hospital voluntarily you can't just leave whenever you want to. You have signed yourself into THEIR care, and it is THEIR decision as to whether or not you are ready to leave. What will usually happen is that the unit will call in a CDMHP who will do an eval and then that person will make the decision as to whether or not you get detained for further tx or you're free to leave.
