I live with my husband and daughter. I sort of lived independently around 2.5 years in grad school in an apartment, but that was mostly living on student loans, because they pay the TAs/RAs as little as possible.

When I was hospitalized with severe panic and anxiety while in grad school, I had a pdoc tell me I will never be able to live on my own for long and likely not hold down a job either. (This particular pdoc thought I was bipolar, and I guess bipolar I at that, but the other 2 pdocs on my case thought I had major depression, so they went with treating depression. The panic disorder they all agreed on.) That is definitely grim news that should not just be told flat out like that to someone who is 24, but what do you know? My bipolar got so much worse within 2 years, and if I were ever separated from my husband, I don't think I could live on my own. I'd likely end up living with one of my sisters.
