I have been taking Prozac for at least four years. I take it in combination with other psych meds. I have both depression and anxiety. It's been helpful for me, and I haven't experienced any bad side effetcs.

Prozac is indicted for major depression. It is also indicated for obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorder which are both anxiety disorders. So it sounds like your doctor picked an appropriate medication.

The one thing Prozac isn't is fast acting. It won't help in the middle of a panic attack for example. There are other meds out there like Ativan, Klonopin, Xanax, and Valium that are commonly used for this.
