I have a friend who is most definetely a narc and quite possibly Psycho. The reason I can keep them as a friend is because we have so much in common otherwise. I don't try to change them I hold my nose and look the other way sometimes. I don't get involved in his "crazy making." I don't allow him to manipulate me. He knows that I highly respect many of his skills and talents and being around me he can feel grandiose. He is incredibly fun to be around IF HE LIKES YOU. I am very careful as he could possibly "turn" on me.
