My therapist taught me that mindfulness was just being aware of what's going on in the present moment.Purposely trying to focus on things I normally did/do on auto-pilot. Even something as simple as washing my hands and paying attention to what I was doing, actually feeling the water and soap on my hands as I wash them.Same with going for a walk, noticing and feeling my feet on the ground, the air I breathe in,my breathing, the sun shining on me,etc. And feeling myself in the chair during sessions, how the chair felt on my back,on my butt, legs, etc. And I did and do find it very helpful.

And meditation,he said instead of trying so hard to quiet my mind and not have any thoughts there to just let everything be there, whatever thoughts and images come up.Just notice them, acknowledge them but not get caught up in them.I actually learned quite a bit about myself and my system through meditation once I stopped trying so hard to push everything away to get a quiet mind.

I meditate differently now though.I can quiet my mind, not always, but when I can't I just let whatever is there be there and observe without letting myself get caught up in it.Many times after I'm finished I feel so relaxed and rejuvinated.
