T once offered me his hand. It was also the one time I cried. But I couldn't reach out toward him. Only when I had stopped crying and was leaving the session did I say "oh I never did take your hand" and then I put my hand in his for just a moment. I was scared of touch too and wasn't sure if it was forbidden or something. But it can clearly be used in a positive therapeutic way (not to make something beautiful sound cold and formal!).
