Is there a difference between how your nuclear family and extended family treat you? Are the more direct family members any more respectful?

My problem is with the extended family members. Ironically I only hear from them when they are either in need of something or to express their disatisfaction with my lack of religion. They are always showing concern I will rot in hell.

I do not get this however from my nuclear family who are far more respectful, understanding, and accepting. Heck, my father is even an Anglican (US= episcopal) Priest and even he respects my choice.
