The only way to get to the bottom of your insomnia is to go see a sleep doctor and request a sleep study done.
Also, the sleep doctor is a psychologist who incorporates cognitive behavior therapy into each patient's sleep routine. That is to say, they help you design a bed time sleep routine that can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to work, based on how consistent the patient is with their bed time routine. I know that whenever I will deviate from my bed time routine, no sleep for Blanche.
I had a sleep study done 20 years ago to address my insomnia. I found out that I am a naturally segmented sleeper (that is, I don't sleep in a full eight hour shift like most, but in 2 shifts). And, I found out that it takes my brain a long time to reach Stage 3 or Delta Sleep which is the stage of deep sleep.
You may want to cross check your medications b/c those definitely could be causing or contributing to your insomnia. Medications tend to mess up our sleep cycles really bad. Just how it goes.
