Dissociating is a scary feeling, especially when time is lost. It is your brain trying to protect you; your brain means well. Therapy has been so successful for me in overcoming dissociation, and one helpful thing is to try and identify the trigger. Superstitious, magical thinking goes hand in hand- telling what is real and what is distorted- and you are not losing your mind. It does mean that an immense source of pain or fear is being perceived, and it might take some work to find that.
