My teen daughter's T thinks we possibly should consider an inpatient program. Her pdoc has brought this up too and I've been wondering the same thing, but I'm so not convinced they do any real good other than rescue people from an acute episode. My daughter is diagnosed bipolar (has been on medications almost a year, with some improvement) and does not get manic but does get very low. She self-injures, although much less than she used to. I worry about her impulsive actions during her very low times. I envision a place where she could do individual and group therapy on a daily basis as well as other kinds of therapies, possibly test other medications in a controlled environment, and be with caring people. It is hard to imagine her living with people who don't love her, as I do and her friends do. I think part of getting well involves being around people who love you and I know she would miss that connection. My concerns are that she would be frightened possibly being around people who are less well than her, or learn new unhealthy behaviors.

It seems a lot of inpatient programs are directed at addiction, and that is not her core problem.

Does anyone know how I would go about finding real behind the scenes information on inpatient programs that might actually be quite excellent?
