It took me a long time to realize this but - just as we can control nothing anybody else says, does, believes, feels, or etc - neither can others control those things in us.
We have the ultimate decision. Unless they truly decide to harm us in a way that incapacitates us, we retain that ability no matter how much pressure they put on us to do otherwise. For me, if someone puts too much pressure to change a decision I have no intention of changing, I simply end the conversation. First I tell them, "I am ending this conversation now because I am getting upset that you seem to not be hearing me or are ignoring me. (And if it is a discussion about a subject rather than doing or going some place, I add: Maybe we can continue this later if you are also willing to listen to me - but right now, I'm ending it." If they argue me ending the conversation or argue that statement, I say, "ok, I'm done now. Have a great day (or night)" and either walk away, hang up the phone (and ignore any call backs from them til I am ready to talk), or minimize chat screen and ignore any notifications of new messages (depending on the situation)
It's hard to do at first, and you feel as if you are being mean - but after a bit, you realize it keeps you more calm and focused. When you are stable and not unhealthy, you can be the friend everyone needs and wants and the person you want to be and it makes it easier to lovd yourself (which is most important).
