Bipolar is a chemical imbalance in the brain and medications help correct that imbalance and thusly control the mood disorder. If you had a heart problem or diabetes and needed to take medication to control it would you question that? This is very similar because it is also very much a physical problem.

I'm bipolar II and I don't know what I would do without medication. I have been depressed for about 85% of the last 15 years and I've only recently found a medication that helps me to really control it. I would never go back to being un-medicated because I now know what it feels like to feel well.
