Regarding the 'depression and anxiety':
I'm not sure if it is a term used only by English speakers, Madelaina, but I think some people may say 'depression & anxiety' together, because they have either been diagnosed with one or both of those things or because they may simply feel that those two things are problems in their lives - regardless of a diagnosis. That's my opinion. Me, personally, I've been diagnosed with both and usually mention them together because, for me, like you, one is giving rise to the other. But for me my social anxiety is coming first which then hammers me psychologically and forms the depression. That's what I observe in myself.
Peace & love!

Ok, that totally makes sense. I didn't want to disregard that someone can have both, depression and anxiety. Just curious what people mean when they say both. Because I sometimes feel like people tend to be "overdiagnosed" and everything has a diagnosis.
But I understand, in your case, what you mean, and yes, it makes sense that your social anxiety feeds into depression or leads to it. So sorry to hear! But you also know that you can overcome and manage this!
About doing everything that feels ok at the moment: yes, I have done it too and smoked a cigarette (although I have officially quit a long time ago). Anything that helps!
What I notice though (maybe luckily), that I tend not to reach to substances when feeling down. I don't feel like drinking at all, or take anything else.
Although I totally understand the need to numb it all...
