I do believe there are varying degrees of empathy, CelestialFlame. Some people have an almost overwhelming empathy towards others, while others can emphatize only to a certain extent. I don't know if I would call them different types of empathy, but I do believe everyone is different, so that may be the cause. I don't think your case is particularly unusal, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Do you see a therapist? Maybe that could help.
