So, finally, I got a call from a police constable regarding the incident. Unfortunately, I have no license plate of the armed assailants (like I'm supposed to run out and behind a car in the middle of a melee with a guy waiving around an AR15). Thus, they won't do a damned thing. She told me the resident of the house was in fact beaten badly but he refused to report/admit to the assault or accept medical treatment. Thus, they won't do a damned thing.

"But what about all the drugs and stolen goods?" I asked. Surely the police must have seen the tell-tale signs of this when inside. Nope, they need an official warrant. Oh come on here, like a gang turf battle out in the street isn't enough probable cause?

And the icing on the cake? When I offered to submit the statement of events I had prepared, the constable told me there was no reason to do so. My god, there were probably 3-4 dozen police out there for the afternoon and you don't want a statement?

Infuriating. I want something done! Shut the place down.

As I was asked, I respond by saying that we are in fact renting. We really don't want to move if it can be helped. It is a beautiful new home, near by all our amenities. The rent is very good. The rest of the neighbourhood is really quite nice. We have managed to ignore to our best ability the comings and goings across the street - until now. The thing is we just signed a new lease which we can't break so we are stuck here for near another year. Thank goodness for our big dog. Thank goodness, including my husband, there are four burly looking Harley Davidson biker types in a row on our side of the street.
