If he is unable to be alone, than your depression - a sort of abandoning him into your dark inner world - might have prepared for that, too.
That would make sense that he would line up a replacement to fill the role that he has to have by his side. But what a shame, given that all in all your marriage was more good than bad, considering how horrendous some other marriages ended up out there.
