Where I live it gets very cold in the winter.

And we have a lot of lakes (over 10,000 across the state.) They gradually freeze over during the winter. But depending on how long it's been cold, & how cold it gets, sometimes the lakes develop a thick layer of ice & sometimes they don't. As soon as they appear frozen, people walk out on them. They ride snowmobiles out on them, they drive cars & trucks out on them. And every year some people go through the ice & drown. Every year there are advisories on the local news programs telling people to be cautious about going out on the frozen lakes. But there's always people who don't listen. You'd think, at some point, people would listen. But not everyone does. And some of them pay for it with their lives.
